Maybe a couple of years ago, working from home seemed relaxing and perhaps easier. You could wear sweatpants and play with the dog in between assignments. And it might have seemed like you could avoid office politics too.
Enter COVID-19 and working from home may no longer feel like a luxury. Yes, you can work in your pajamas, unless you have a Zoom or Skype meeting. And sometimes you may want to dress in something sharp to give yourself a boost.
Yet, you will spend a lot of time alone and even the introverts among us may get lonely sometime. You won’t have chats at the water cooler where you can learn about what’s going in your company and/or chat with your friends. It will be more important than ever to stay connected and on top of what’s going in the company. But make sure to reward yourself with breaks in or out of the house.
If you’re a freelancer working from home, it’s wise to set up a corner of your home that supports your work. You’ll need to generate your own clients and set your rates, raising them when it’s appropriate. And in order to remain competitive, you’ll need to stay up with the trends in your field so prospects will want to hire you.
